چکیده

Image fusion is an important tool in remote sensing, as many Earth observation satellites provide both high-resolution panchromatic and low-resolution multispectral images. To date, many image fusion techniques have been developed. However, the available algorithms can hardly produce a satisfactory fusion result for IKONOS and QuickBird images. Among the existing fusion algorithms, the IHS technique is the most widely used one, and the wavelet fusion is the most frequently discussed one in recent publications because of its advantages over other fusion techniques. But the colour distortion of these two techniques is often obvious, especially when IKONOS or QuickBird natural colour multispectral images are fused with its panchromatic images. This study presents a new fusion approach that integrates the advantages of both the IHS and the wavelet techniques to reduce the colour distortion of IKONOS and QuickBird fusion results. Different IKONOS and QuickBird images have been fused with this new approach. Visual and statistical analyses prove that the concept of the proposed IHS and wavelet integration is promising, and it does significantly improve the fusion quality compared to conventional IHS and wavelet fusion techniques. 2004 Elsevier B.V. A New Method to Fusion IKONOS and QuickBird Satellites Imagery

The modern remote sensing imaging sensors, like those in the IKONOS and QuickBird satellites, are capable of generating panchromatic images with about one meter spatial resolution. The principal objective of fusion in remote sensing is to obtain images that can combine the spectral characteristic of the lowresolution multispectral images with the spatial information of the high-resolution panch...

Evaluation of Pan-Sharpening Methods

Melissa Strait, Sheida Rahmani, Daria Markurjev Faculty Advisor: Todd Wittman UCLA Department of Mathematics August 2008 Abstract Pan-sharpening combines a low-resolution color multispectral image with a high-resolution grayscale panchromatic image to create a high-resolution fused color image. In this paper we examine five different pan-sharpening methods: IHS, PCA, Wavelet fusion, P+XS, and V...

Image fusion of Ikonos pan and multispectral images for classification of the urban environment

The paper compares different data fusion techniques in order to choose an appropriate technique for accurate urban mapping. Availability of high spatial resolution Ikonos and Quickbird imagery has made accurate mapping of urban areas more feasible. Though Ikonos multispectral images have a good spatial resolution of 4 m, it is often desirable to have an increased spatial resolution for a more a...

Comparison of Nine Fusion Techniques for Very High Resolution Data

The term “image fusion” covers multiple techniques used to combine the geometric detail of a high-resolution panchromatic image and the color information of a lowresolution multispectral image to produce a final image with the highest possible spatial information content while still preserving good spectral information quality. During the last twenty years, many methods such as Principal Compon...

Image Fusion Techniques in Remote

Remote sensing image fusion is an effective way to use a large volume of data from multisensor images. Most earth satellites such as SPOT, Landsat 7, IKONOS and QuickBird provide both panchromatic (Pan) images at a higher spatial resolution and multispectral (MS) images at a lower spatial resolution and many remote sensing applications require both high spatial and high spectral resolutions, es...
